End User Registration Rules

Use of the micro-data in the LUXEMBOURG INCOME STUDY databases is governed by regulations that do not allow copying or further distribution of the survey micro-data. Anyone violating these regulations will lose all privileges to the databases and may be subject to prosecution under the law. In addition, any attempt to circumvent the LIS processing system or unauthorized entry into the LIS computing system will result in prosecution.

USER OBLIGATIONS

• Use of the data is restricted to social science research purposes only. No private or commercial use is permitted;

• Access is limited to researchers working for an academic, government or non-profit organization;

• Users must register with the LIS asbl and sign a pledge to obey the rules governing the use of the micro-data;

•  Access to the micro-data is granted on a yearly basis. Annual renewals have been implemented electronically starting in 2008.

• Registered users receive an "user id" and "password" that are strictly personal. Therefore, listings generated from user requests will be returned ONLY to the email address that was registered by the user when applying for access;

• LIS project is a depository for anonymized household survey micro-data where the information is disclose in a manner which it is not likely to disclose of an individual’s identity. Users agree to preserve the confidentiality of survey respondents and agree not to attempt in any way to use information obtained from accessing the databases to identify individual persons. Under no circumstances shall also a registered user make any attempt to locate and list any survey information to identify individual persons;

• No direct access of any kind is permitted to the micro-data or to the LIS network. Users agree not to attempt in any way to copy individual records through listing them in a program output or in any other fashion;

PUBLICATION

• Any paper written using the LIS data must be submitted for entry into the LIS Working Paper series before it is published elsewhere.

• The citation (quoted below) must be put in your references when using LIS data in your research:

Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) Micro database, (year); harmonization of original surveys conducted by the Luxembourg Income Study, Asbl. Luxembourg, periodic updating.
