'De-lessification' table

Czech Republic 1994

Attention!
The dataset 'CZ94' modified in May 1998 according to the new variable structure, has been slightly modified as regard as three other aspects as well, namely:
  • variable FJ08, PE05 and LF04 have been recoded to better correspond to the LES standardized variable structure (see corresponding value labels in the 'List of standardized variables with value labels' document)
  • a mistake in the construction of variable FJ21 has been corrected (some observations wrongly assigned to category FJ21=5 have been moved to category FJ21=6)
  • 40 observations previously classified PE06=1 have been more appropriately re-classified PE06=8

The distinction between the two groups is only possible from 1995 on, but not in the LES dataset.
II. WORK STATUS (WS)
WS01 b1, b2, b3, b53
WS02 b3, b53 WS02=5 includes both women in 'regular' maternity leave and women in additional child care leave (see note on variable DB17)
III. EMPLOYMENT CHARACTERISTICS - FIRST (MAIN) JOB (FJ)
FJ01 b10zah2
FJ02 b12 The members of production cooperatives have been considered as 'employees' (see note on variable FJ02b)
FJ02b b12 This is the original classification of the status in employment in the Czech questionnaire.
A 'member of production cooperative' (FJ02b=2) can be a self-employed, bust most of the time is a state employee.
FJ03 b9Ok3
FJ04 b11kz3*10 The ISCO classification was originally 4 digits, but was recoded into 3 digits as part of the anonymisation process. It has been re-converted into 4 digits by multiplying it by 10.
FJ05   *
FJ06   *
FJ07 b10zah2
FJ08 b8
FJ09 b13, b14 The 'full-time regime' is defined on a trade union or state level, depending on the branch
FJ10 b5
FJ11 b7
FJ12 b15
FJ13 b16
FJ14 b18 FJ14=10 is a broader category than the label would entail, meaning 'other reasons including taking care of the family member', thus corresponding in fact to FJ14=10 and FJ14=15 put together

VI. INFORMATION ABOUT SECOND JOB (SJ)
SJ01 b4
SJ02 b25 The members of production cooperatives have been considered as 'employees' (SJ02=3); even if they can be self-employed, most of the time they are state employees.
SJ03 b26Ok3
SJ04 b28kz3 The ISCO classification was originally 4 digits, but was recoded into 3 digits as part of the anonymisation process. It has been re-converted into 4 digits by multiplying it by 10.
SJ05 *
SJ06 b29
SJ07 b30
V. PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE OF PERSONS NOT IN EMPLOYMENT (PE)
PE01 b35
PE02 *
PE03 b38Ok3
PE04 b40kz3 The ISCO classification was originally 4 digits, but was recoded into 3 digits as part of the anonymisation process. It has been re-converted into 4 digits by multiplying it by 10.
PE05 b36
PE06 b37 PE06=8 ('resigned') means, more precisely, 'I stopped my business'.
VI. SEARCH FOR EMPLOYMENT (SE)
SE01 b42, b53
SE02 b45, b46, b47, b48 SE02=6 means more precisely 'any type of job' , 'it does not matter whether full-time or part-time'
SE03 b50
SE04 b43 SE04=3 means more precisely 'visiting enterprises'
SE04b   *
SE04c   *
SE05   *
SE06 b51, b52
SE07 b44 SE07=4 includes also women in maternity leave and in extended child care leave.

X. LABOUR FORCE STATUS (LF) (derived variables)
LF01
LF02
LF03
LF04   In the Czech questionnaire, the individual is not asked whether he/she is willing to work, despite no job is looked for (SE05 is missing). Therefore the LF04 variable does not correspond exactly to the LES definitions. In particular, the 'inactive, discouraged workers' (LF04=1) are defined as those individuals who are not looking for work, but are available and the 'other inactive' (LF04=3) as those inactive not available for work. The 'willingness of working' cannot being considered, no other distinction among inactive is possible.
