Income Study Working Papers: 1. General policy. As stated in the User Registration Rules and Forms, all papers that use Luxembourg Income Study microdata must be submitted for inclusion in the Luxembourg Income Study Working Paper series (LIS or LWS) before they are published in books, journals or other venues. This requirement applies to papers that use the microdata directly and/or that use the Key Figures. Papers submitted to LIS for inclusion are not peer-reviewed. The LIS leadership checks for overall clarity and for sufficient use of the data. Inclusion in the Working Papers series is not considered publication. LIS is not responsible for any risks associated with using, or citing, the Working Papers. Papers submitted to the Working Paper series should be sent electronically to Caroline de Tombeur (caroline@lisproject.org). Please be certain to include an abstract with your submission; LIS staff uses author-provided abstracts to identify keywords for the Working Paper search engine. LIS also asks that authors under the age of forty also inform Caroline of their birthdate, so that LIS will know if they are eligible for LIS’ young scholars award (the Aldi Hagenaars Award). Please direct any questions about the proper use of the microdata to the LIS staff. 2. Publication of LIS Working Papers in scholarly books and journals. LIS is more than willing to accommodate the needs and requirements of book, journal or other publishers. While it is relatively uncommon, some publishers ask that papers be removed from Working Paper series before publication. On request, LIS will remove the paper although the title, authorship information, and abstract will remain in the LIS Working Paper database. Note that some publishing venues ask that the Working Paper version be somewhat different from the published version. Authors generally send LIS the version of the paper that is initially sent for publication; thus, the Working Paper version would not include the publisher’s subsequent copy editing or formatting. At the same time, authors are invited to revise Working Papers at any time; authors may simply send a updated version with a new date (marked “revised”) and LIS will replaces the prior version of the Working Paper. 3. Required citation. Users of the LIS or LWS microdata are required to cite the data source in their list of references. As suggested by the Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition, 2007) pp 753-754 (17.358), LIS requests that authors use the following format. Note that the text within the curly braces "{}" should be replaced, by the author, with specific information. How to cite the LIS microdata: Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) Database, http://www.lisproject.org/techdoc.htm (multiple countries; {include the dates of the interval during which microdata runs completed}). How to cite the LWS microdata: Luxembourg Wealth Study (LWS) Database, http://www.lisproject.org/lwstechdoc.htm (multiple countries; {include the dates of the interval during which microdata runs completed}). How to cite the Key Figures: Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) Key Figures, http://www.lisproject,org/keyfigures.htm ({include the date during with the website was visited and/or the Key Figures were downloaded}). 4. Copyright policy. LIS Working Paper authors retain copyright of the papers. However, the Luxembourg Income Study acquires sufficient rights to permit it to accomplish its scholarly goals. These rights include the right to distribute contributions online, to incorporate contributions into other media for offline distribution, and to add appropriate hyperlinks or otherwise integrate contributions into the larger body of relevant literature. Consistent with this policy, the Luxembourg Income Study generally permits and encourages the dissemination of Working Papers for educational or non-profit uses. Other uses, such as reproduction for profit, are not permitted without the written permission of the copyright owner, who will, in most cases be the author. Permission for electronic dissemination of Luxembourg Income Study Working Papers is granted. Reproduction in hardcopy/print format for educational purposes or by non-profit organizations such as libraries and schools is permitted. For all other uses, advance written notice is required.
