WEIGHTING PROCEDURE ORIGINAL FILE:

The Polish Statistical Office used a simple weighting system (2 for urban 1 for rural). Marek Peczkoseki developed another weighting system, which we have used for LIS based on three characteristics size of household (one through 7 members), location (urban or rural), and type of household (any of the four permutations of employed/unemployed and receiving unemployment insurance/not). These weights force the survey to fit the same representation as the survey "Economic Activity of Polish Households" given in August 1990. Actual weights are found in attached documentation. Note that the weights are formed to keep the sample size constant.

The survey was weighted to adjust for survey under/over representation of certain population groups and to insure that the sum of the of survey weights represented independent population estimates form Economic Activity of Polish Households (survey given in August 1990). That is the original survey is biased toward certain groups so weights were added to be more representative of the population.
